WORCESTER CONVENTION

Agenda Item: Open Agenda

For this committee of ÇapaMUN'26; we are taking you to 1850 Massachusetts, to the first edition of the National Women's Rights Convention. The purpose of this convention being held was to determine actions necessary to uphold equality for all regardless of sex or color. The event was opened with the words of Paulina Wright Davis who adressed "the emancipation of a class, the redemption of half the world, and a conforming re-organization of all social, political, and industrial interests and institutions". Following that; equal pay, suffrage, education, women's property rights, marriage reform and temperance were discussed. Around 500 delegates from 11 states attended the convention.

In this committee delegates will be reliving the Worcester Convention and demonstrating the experience of being a feminist in 1800s with such small means. Delegates are expected to come up with their own policies, resolutions and viewpoints to encourage natural, flowing and healthy debate. Throughout the conference, delegates must consider the social, legal and economical status of the mid 19th century America in order to contribute to the historical accuracy of the debate. Delegates will be expected to write a force paper as a conclusion to the convention.
